About This Hero
Crystal Lemus is very passionate about health literacy and makes it obvious through her work. At the young age of 22, Crystal has published two children’s health books in both English and Spanish that allow children of all ages to become more aware of public health issues while further developing literacy skills. Crystal has bought several copies of her own books and has dispersed them throughout local libraries and clinics for easier access. Besides working with the youth, Crystal has also developed a health literacy course in a rural Tennessee county that aims to teach adults basic health skills including: chronic disease management, health care access and navigation, and prevention and screening. She is also a blog writer for the Traumatic Brain Injury Association as well as the Tennessee Public Health Association.
