Nikki (Charisse) Montgomery
About This Hero
Charisse Montgomery is the author of the Super Safe Kids book series and curricula. She is a health literacy hero because of her commitment to making safety tools for families. The books and safety tools translate complex health and safety issues to language that is easily understood by children and their families, to improve health literacy and engagement and address disparities. An educational psychologist and parent of a child with complex health needs, she helps children and their families improve safety and advocacy in the hospital, the community and the home.
A former educator, Charisse has a master’s degree in Educational Psychology with research focused on informing and empowering parents of medically fragile children. She is a patient advocate and serves on the Board of Directors at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, where she was on the safety committee and is past-president of the hospital’s Patient and Family Partnership Council.
